Can Kentucky Football Post Another Winning Season In 2023?
Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

Mark Stoops has done what few once thought was possible: Win football games consistently at the University of Kentucky. Something Kentucky sports betting participants are going to enjoy this season.

Since 2016, the Wildcats have won at least 7 games in six seasons. That includes a pair of 10-win campaigns, something UK only achieved twice in 125 years before Stoops’ teams did it in 2018 and 2021.

The Wildcats will have some new faces this season. Most notable among them is quarterback Devin Leary, one of the most coveted players in the transfer portal this offseason. Stoops and his staff have also done a solid job on the recruiting trail to develop a pipeline of talent that’s hoping to build on the past few seasons.

Chances Good For Another Seven-Win Season

Winning isn’t easy, especially in the Southeastern Conference, but what kind of season can Big Blue Nation expect in Lexington? BetKentucky.com says the odds favor another winning one for the Cats.

We compiled hypothetical odds – for entertainment purposes only – on the UK’s 2023 regular season record.

Record Odds % Chance
7-5 +200 33.3%
8-4 +250 28.6%
9-3 +450 18.2%
6-6 +500 16.7%
5-7 +650 13.3%
Other +1500 6.3%

Nearly all the challenges Kentucky will face this season will come from their eight-game gauntlet in the SEC. On Oct. 7, the Wildcats must travel to two-time defending national champion and Associated Press preseason No. 1 Georgia. Three weeks later, they host No. 12 Tennessee and then host No. 4 Alabama.

After Bama, the Cats’ SEC campaign ends on the road against a South Carolina team that just missed an AP preseason ranking. The following week, they end the regular season traveling to a Louisville squad featuring new coach Jeff Brohm, who should have the Cardinals ready to end Kentucky’s four-game winning streak in the rivalry.

Even if UK should falter in all of those games, the rest of the schedule sets up in their favor, meaning yet another seven-win season and another bowl berth is well within the Wildcats’ grasp.

Kentucky starts the season at home on Sept. 2 against Ball State. Sports betting launches in the Bluegrass State five days later, and the first UK game BBN will get to wager on will be Sept. 9 against Eastern Kentucky.
