Ranking Wildcats Coach Stoops Among SEC Coaches In October

Ranking Wildcats Coach Stoops Among SEC Coaches In October
Fact Checked by Jim Tomlin

When it comes to SEC college football, Kentucky coach Mark Stoops is not Mr. October. Stoops has led UK to its third straight season with a start of 4-0 or better and the fourth since 2018, and the team is just on the outside of the Associated Press and coaches’ Top 25 polls. However, SEC football is always demanding, especially in October.

As we get into the heart of the CFB season, BetKentucky.com continues its Kentucky sports betting coverage by using records from Sports-Reference.com to see which SEC coaches have the best record in October. Only coaches with three or more years of experience were evaluated. Of the 10 coaches in the conference that were eligible, Stoops came in ninth.

Must be present in KY and 21+ to participate. T&Cs apply.

Before we get to October, Kentucky faces Florida on Saturday to wrap up September. The Wildcats are a 1-point favorite according to BetMGM Kentucky Sportsbook odds.

Last year, UK went 1-3 in October. It faced three teams in the Associated Press top 25, but the Cats did knock off then-No. 16 Mississippi State. This season, all three Wildcats games in October are against teams currently ranked, including an Oct. 7 trip to top-ranked Georgia. When you factor in Saturday’s game against No. 22 Florida, Stoops’ team will face four consecutive opponents that are currently ranked in the top 25. The Wildcats also have a week off before prepping to play SEC archrival Tennessee on Oct. 28.

This will be the first weekend when Bluegrass State residents can use Kentucky betting promos when they sign up with legal, regulated operators without having to cross state lines.

Kentucky Football Prospectus

There are a couple things benefitting Kentucky during the upcoming stretch. For one, three of the four games are at home in Lexington. Secondly, the three home games are against teams presently ranked Nos. 21-23, and if the Wildcats beat the Gators Saturday, they will assuredly crack the Top 25 themselves.

Still, that gauntlet of games – plus a Nov. 11 contest at home versus No. 12 Alabama – gives oddsmakers pause when considering Kentucky’s chances for an SEC title. At DraftKings, the Wildcats are the eighth choice to win the SEC Championship at +4000 odds.

Thursday marked the beginning for legal, online Kentucky sports betting apps. BetKentucky.com will provide you with the latest news and analysis on what’s happening in the Bluegrass State as well as the best promotional codes.
