Indianapolis Colts 2024 Win Total: Trends of 8.5 Win Total Teams

Fact Checked by Thomas Leary

The last three years have been forgettable for fans of the Indianapolis Colts, with two 9-8 seasons punctuated by a 4-12-1 stinker and zero postseason appearances for the club during that stretch of time.

Last year, the Colts went 9-8 despite posting a -17-point differential under first-year head coach Shane Steichen, finishing second in the four-team AFC South behind the Houston Texans and coming tantalizingly close to the franchiseā€™s first postseason berth since 2020.

Now, Indy kicks off the 2024 league year with a preseason win total of 8.5 with +5500 Super Bowl odds, giving fans of Kentucky sports betting some semblance of hope that this fall could be the one theyā€™ve been waiting on for the last half-decade.

Utilizing DraftKings Sportsbookā€™s current win total for the 2024 NFL season, the Colts were found to be set at 8.5 wins (+105 over). Utilizing SportsReference.com, BetKentucky.com found all teams with an 8.5-win total line in the last 10 NFL seasons and how they performed.

Can Colts Clear Preseason Win Total in 2024?

Based on recent trends, it seems like thereā€™s a decent shot that the Colts will win nine or more games in 2024, as 31 of the 55 teams (56.4%) that began the league year with preseason win total over/under totals of 8.5 have done just that since 2014.

Throw in the fact that 29 of those 55 teams (52.7%) eventually reached the playoffs and six made it all the way to the NFL Championship Game (the 2015 Arizona Cardinals & Carolina Panthers, 2017 Minnesota Vikings & Philadelphia Eagles, 2018 Kansas City Chiefs and 2020 Green Bay Packers) and you have a pretty good picture of the reasons why Colts fans should be optimistic entering 2024.

Of the 55 teams that began the year in the Coltsā€™ shoes, only that 2018 Eagles team won the Super Bowl, while the Panthers made it to the Big Game before falling to the Denver Broncos in 2015.

This fall, Steichen and the Colts will look to follow in the footsteps of the Eagles, flying where the franchise hasnā€™t flown since Peyton Manning called the shots in Indy, by getting the franchise back to the Super Bowl in the new league year.
