Kentucky showed significant increases in revenue when official figures were released for August by The Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Corporation (KHRGC) earlier this month.
The Kentucky sports wagering monthly handle generated more than $193.1 million. Adjusted gross revenue totaled more than $22.1 million and tax revenue to the state posted more than $3.1 million. The $22.1 million skyrocketed 87% year-over-year, while the $193.1 million showed a 27.5% increase from the same time last year.
Nine licensed brick-and-mortar retail sportsbooks in the state generated a mere $744,000 in revenue (more than doubled from July) from a retail handle of $5.5 million.
Through the first eight months of 2025, sportsbooks generated more than $1.7 billion in handle and over $193.3 million in revenue.
In August, Circa Sports Kentucky entered the market with their new retail sportsbook at The Mint Gaming Hall Kentucky Downs in Franklin.
DraftKings Tops the State Online
DraftKings generated more than $71.4 million in August handle ($7.9 million in revenue) which was $11.2 million more than second-place FanDuel ($60.2 million). FanDuel was tops in monthly revenue at $8.2 million. bet365 rounded out the top three with $20.4 million in monthly handle ($1.6 million in revenue).
To date, the state has generated more than $594 million in tax revenue since Sept. 2023.
College Basketball Tips Off First Week in November
The Louisville men's basketball team will open their 2025-26 campaign on Nov. 3 vs. South Carolina State at 9 p.m. ET (ACC Network), while Kentucky opens their regular season on Nov. 4 at home vs. Nicholls at 7 p.m. ET (ACC Network).
Both schools will clash in their storied rivalry at Louisville at 8 p.m. ET on Nov. 11 (ESPN).
